Roland Berger study: e-commerce for forwarders

According to a new study compiled by Roland Berger, the logistics industry is in a quandary about the pressure to digitalise and its fear of losing data sovereignty. Some 95% of the logisticians that were surveyed are convinced that digitalization will change the industry. The biggest risk is reckoned to be the loss of important data.

In addition, forwarders in particular are concerned that they could lose market shares when competing with new digitally orientated rivals. A lack of knowledge about digitalization (69%) and poor internal support (54%) make the transformation to the digital world more difficult.

In contrast, booking platforms will become more important and will be able to change transport companies’ traditional business model. Around 300 logistics companies and service providers in 19 countries, including Switzerland, were surveyed for the study. (cd)
