RoRo milestone in Cuxport


The port services provider Cuxport recently handled the two millionth automobile for the BMW Group at the RoRo berth no 2 in Cuxhaven. The vehicle, which had arrived by rail, was loaded on to the “Jutlandia Seaways” vessel belonging to the DFDS shipping company.

 

Politicians, representatives of the business community, the shipping companies UECC and DFDS as well as the rail services providers DB Cargo Logistics and Hödlmayr International were present at the event. Cuxport has been handling BMW vehicles for the British market for 15 years and is one of the major hubs for transhipping automobiles in the North Sea range. The new cars arrive at Cuxhaven by rail. Up to 2,000 vehicles can be loaded on to a ship.

 

The DFDS shipping company then transports the cars to Immingham on the east coast of England up to six times a week, while the UECC shipping company sets sail for the port of Southampton on the south coast of Britain twice a week. Cuxport does not only serve as a feeder for new vehicles heading for Great Britain, it also ships cars to Sweden, Iceland and Denmark. (fd)
