Samoa Airways taking off today
Today (14 November 2017), Samoa Airways is launching jet services from its hub at the Pacific's main gateway, Faleolo international airport (APW).
Formerly known as Polynesian Airlines, the airline which was founded in 1959 downscaled its operation in 2005 and since then operated only short-haul turbo-prop flights between Samoa and American Samoa and charters to neighbouring islands.
After taking over its first Boeing B737-800 aircraft last week (wk 45), a new chapter for Samoa’s national airline now begins with connections between Samoa, New Zealand and Australia.
Prime minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi said the country had learned from the mistakes made by its former carrier, Polynesian Airlines. (ah)
