Significant rise in Tanger Med volumes
Tanger Med port saw a significant rise in throughput in 2017. Exports were a major driver, as Moroccan products worth MAD 88 billion (EUR 7.8 billion) exited the port.
The overall traffic volume amounted to 51.3 million t in 2017, 15% more than to 2016. More than 3.3 million teu passed through the TC1 and TC2 container terminals last year, +12% vis-a-vis 2016.
Truck traffic also grew by 9% in units and by 14% in weight; the 287,000 units in 2017 correspond to 7 million t of goods, thanks to a more than 10% increase in industrial exports and an over 11% upsurge in agro foods.
At the end of 2017, Tanger Med port had direct maritime connections to 174 ports and 74 countries on five continents. (kd)
