Silk Way West flying emergency relief to Iraq
The organisation Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help has sent its fifth plane-load of urgently-needed equipment to the children of northern Iraq. A Boeing B747-400F operated by the Azeri carrier Silk Way West Airlines flew baby-food, nappies and biscuits from Frankfurt Hahn airport to Erbil.
In the Kurdish camps there around 23,000 children need support. Those familiar with the situation in the camps have reported that the displaced people plan to return to their homes at the earliest possible moment, and not flee to Europe.
They can only do so if supply chains function and there are opportunities to earn a living in their homes. The NGO Wings of Help thus also supports three computer schools it has helped set up in the region. (ah)
