Simplifying e-commerce returns
Return rates are continuing to rise as a result of the booming e-commerce sector. Although this could pose problems, solutions are being developed. The German company Dematic, an automated material handling system provider, has developed the hanging Mona Lisa pouch sortation system, which can simplify returns handling thanks to its ability to buffer and sort both hanging items and flat goods simultaneously.
Both returns and goods first ordered from a warehouse can be placed in sorter’s pouches. Dematic said that the returned goods remain in the rotating system until requested again. As a result only a small proportion of returns goods have to be sent back to the warehouse.
