Single wagon traffic: Xrail booking platform grows
Seven European freight railways have joined forces and formed the Xrail Alliance to make wagonload traffic in Europe more attractive. The railways’ capacity management systems have been linked together and form the heart of the alliance. A central platform was created with the XCB Broker for this purpose.
SBB Cargo, CFL Cargo, Lineas and Rail Cargo Austria are already linked together via the XCB Broker. DB Cargo recently became technically connected so that the company can book around 200,000 cars through the system this year, and all its single wagon transport with its Xrail partners from the end of 2020.
Green Cargo and Fret SNCF are planning to introduce the system in 2021. The seven Xrail railfreight companies handle around two thirds of Europe’s single wagon traffic. (ben)
