Smith Electric Vehicles to form joint venture in Taiwan

Smith Electric Vehicles, a producer of all-electric medium-duty commercial vehicles, has signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture with Taikang Technology Corporation (TTC) in Taiwan. The Taiwanese commercial vehicle manufacturer has twenty-five years of automotive experience and has expertise in upfitting specialized municipal commercial vehicles. Smith Electric and TTC intend to enter into a definitive licensing agreement that will cover the assembly and distribution of all-electric vehicles in Taiwan, and thereby open up an important new market for Smith Electric. The vehicles will be Smith Electric branded. The joint venture's first three production years are anchored by a 5,000 vehicle commitment. (ben)
