South Asian carrier pins hopes on cargo business

Sri Lankan Airlines has formulated a new strategic business plan for the 2019 - 2024 period with the objective of transforming itself into a financially viable organisation airline group with high brand visibility and a global reputation for excellence. At the same time, the carrier wants to turn Sri Lanka into a strategic hub for air travel and air cargo in the Asia-Africa-Middle East region.

The business plan includes Sri Lankan Cargo introducing innovative cargo products to boost yield, and the use of freighter operations to support the carriage of cargo by the Sri Lankan fleet.

Last year, Sri Lanka's national carrier transported a record volume of 278,000 t of cargo, 4.6% more than in 2017. (ah)
