Spain: One in every five driver positions remains unfilled

A survey conducted by the International Road Union (IRU) among 202 truck, bus and coach companies from Spain, revealed that the current shortfall of drivers stands at 20%. This data mirrors a broader survey that IRU conducted throughout Europe in March 2019, which showed a similar trend across several countries including the UK, Germany, Belgium, Norway and Romania.

In Spain, the acute shortage also looks set to escalate in the coming years, with the IRU’s figures showing that demand for drivers is set to increase by 18% by 2020. Coupled with the fact that recruitment into the industry is stalling, this means that the driver shortage could reach 30% within one year if not addressed immediately. (ben)
