Stadler wins contract in Uruguay

Swiss manufacturer Stadler has signed an agreement with freight company Portren to supply seven EURO4001 diesel-electric locomotives for the freight railway. It is Stadler’s first contract in Uruguay.

Deliveries are expected to start by the end of 2022. The locomotives will be designed and manufactured at Stadler’s plant in Valencia, Spain.

In Uruguay, the new vehicles will make the trips from a new pulp factory to the port, on a route comprising 273 km of track, known as Ferrocarril Central.

Each convoy, which will be about 475 m long, will be made up of one locomotive and 26 wagons carrying wood pulp. On the way back, the vehicles will transport the chemicals and fuel required to produce cellulose. (ben)
