Success across all four divisions
The 2017 financial year proved favourable for the Deutsche Post DHL Group. Group revenue rose by 5.4% to EUR 60.4 billion and its operating profit climbed by 7.2% to EUR 3.74 billion, in line with the company’s earnings target of around EUR 3.75 billion.
Revenue in the post/e-commerce/parcel (PeP) division increased by 6.4% to EUR 18.2 billion, and it contributed EUR 1.5 billion to operating profit as forecast. DHL divisions’ ebit amounted to EUR 2.6 billion. The positive performance was primarily attributable to growth in volumes and revenue in the e-commerce/parcel business unit.
The global forwarding, freight’s performance improved over the course of the year, and its revenue increased by 5.4% to EUR 14.5 billion. The division registered significant volume growth in both air and ocean freight. Road and rail transport also developed positively in Europe, particularly in Germany.
Revenue in the supply chain division grew by 1.4% to EUR 14.2 billion. Adjusted for negative currency effects, the year-on-year increase in revenue amounted to 4.6%. The supply chain sector was able to generate new business, concluding additional contracts worth EUR 1.5 billion with both new and existing customers during 2017. (mw)
