Swedish carrier runs new shuttle for furniture dealer

Under a new contract with Ikea, Green Cargo recently operated its first rail shuttle service from Älmhult and Torsvik to Arsta (all Sweden).

The shuttle runs six days per week and supplies goods to department stores and warehouses in the greater Stockholm and Uppsala areas. On arrival at the Arsta terminal, Green Cargo partner's Road Cargo Stockholm is responsible for onforwarding the containers by truck.

According to the contract, the freight railway will move around 12,500 containers per annum. This, in turn, lightens the carbon footprint by some 4,476 t of CO2 per year.

The new shuttle, together with other Ikea volumes, means that around 12,500 shipments will be taken off the road. (ben)
