Timber exports boost Croatia railfreight volumes
Growing timber export volumes in Croatia have triggered the use of an innovative freight transport scheme at the Adriatic gate container terminal (AGCT) in the port of Rijeka (Croatia).
To cater for the additional beech wood volumes, an intermodal rail service connecting AGCT to the wood producer Cedar’s production facility in Vrbovsko (Croatia) was recently established.
AGIT, the intermodal subsidiary of the Croatian-based HŽ Cargo Group, uses the link to transport the bulk of Cedar’s wood exports to Rijeka, from where they are forwarded by sea. (ben)
