Transbox and UCT launch joint venture in Antwerp
Switzerland's Contargo AG is further developing its container barge service to and from the ARA ports. The company's container service, Transbox, has launched a joint venture with United Container Transport (UCT), resulting in the formation of Transbox United BVBA. The new company will be headquartered in Antwerp (Belgium) and commence operations on 1 October 2014.
Stefan de Wilde, managing director of Transbox United, says the joint venture will allow the two partners to bundle services, and the entity's portfolio will mainly consist of intraport transports and ARA services between the western seaports.
United Container Transport holds a 45% share in the new company. The Contargo subsidiary, Contargo Waterway Logistics, holds a 55% share in the new enterprise, which offers daily container services on the Rotterdam – Moerdijk – Antwerp loop, as well as inter-terminal transport in the port of Rotterdam.
