Turkish Cargo refutes accusations from World Animal Protection

World Animal Protection recently claimed that "Turkish Airlines transported African grey parrots between Kinshasa and Kuwait via Istanbul, with more than 60 birds found dead on arrival". A month ago in Johannesburg, the ITJ spoke with A. Bahadir Büyükkaymaz, manager special cargo of Turkish Cargo.

The airline officially stated that it "continues its successful operations in terms of live animal transportation in compliance with the Animal Transportation Association (Iata) regulations and international standards through all processes of the transport. (...)

Signing the 'Buckingham Palace Declaration' (...), Turkish Airlines has held the 'Seminar on Preventing the International Animal Trafficking' with Iata and United for Wildlife. (...)

Turkish Cargo is committed to complete the 'Iata CEIV Live Animal Certification' process, initiated to achieve quality standards in collaboration with Iata, in 2019." (ah)
