Two new heavyweights for NYK

One of the Japanese NYK Group companies, NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers, is to expand its fleet. The shipping company has signed a contract with Nanjing Jinling Shipyard, which is part of the China Merchants Group, to build two heavylift vessels.

The two new units will be equipped with two 400 t cranes capable of lifting up to 800 t of heavy cargo. The maximum length of the hold will be about 95 m. The ships’ hatches will be coverless and the bridge will be placed at the bow of the ship enabling the carriage of tall and large cargo without risk of any disruption to forward visibility during navigation.

The vessels can furthermore reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet in advance the EEDI (energy efficiency design index) phase 3 requirements that will become effective in 2025. The NYK Group is proud to be the only shipping company to own and operate heavylift vessels in Japan. (fd)
