UTLC’s box transport service grows by 75%
The container operator United Transport and Logistics Company (UTLC) handled over 175,000 teu in transit through Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus in 2017. The box volume was 75% higher than in 2016.
All in all, 2,102 container trains ran along the Asia-Europe-Asia corridor in the year under review, and the company operated a total of 48 scheduled routes, compared to 19 at the beginning of 2016. Within the framework of the «XL train» project, more than 115 long trains were assembled with up to 100 wagons last year.
UTLC, jointly owned by Russian Railways, Belarusian Railway and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, said that its 2017 results represent a new record for the number of transit trains using the 1,520 mm track infrastructure. (ben)
