Vaccine distribution takes off in USA

In cooperation, Fedex and UPS have started the roll-out of Pfizer’s vaccines against Covid-19 in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently gave its green light for the drug’s emergency public use.

The companies will share the distribution as follows: Fedex will deliver vaccine doses to the Western states of the USA, UPS will cover the other part.

The vaccine developed by Pfizer and German partner Biontech originates from the company’s main plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and a freezer farm in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

As part of the roll-out, United Airlines also got an FDA authorisation to launch additional flights to Chicago from Pfizer’s plant in Belgium to supplement the supply.

United made an initial delivery for Pfizer two weeks ago. The main distribution hubs of Fedex and UPS for these services are located in Memphis, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky. (sh)
