VIIA focuses on climate-neutral services

The French Ro-La operator VIIA plans to make all its long-haul overland services climate-neutral as from 2020. Just by shifting cargo previously transported by semitrailers onto the railways, CO2 emissions are reduced by 94%, the operator says.

Furthermore, the climate balance has been continuously improved over the last few years, for instance with measures to increase energy efficiency for lifting operations, track units and other rolling stock.

In recent months, VIIA also carried out energy efficiency audits, installed LED systems for the lighting in the hub in Boulou on the French-Spanish frontier and increased the share of e-vehicles its fleet to 40%. In the winter, VIIA will take part in a big wood afforestation project in France with the planting of almost 13,000 trees. (ben)
