Volumes shrink again at world's biggest airfreight hub


Airport Authority Hong Kong announced that during May 2019, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) cargo throughput decreased by 7.3% year on year to 405,000 t.

 

Amid the uncertain global economic situation, cargo imports shrank by 9%, compared to May 2018, while exports and transhipments both declined by 7%. In May 2019, cargo throughput associated with Southeast Asia, Japan and mainland China noted the most significant decrease among the key trading regions.

 

On a twelve-month rolling basis, HKIA cargo throughput fell by 2.7% to 5 million t. (ah)
