Volumes wilt under summer sun
The slowdown in China’s economy, the situation between Russia and western countries and the weak state of some economies in the Euro zone is having repercussions on the container trade's worldwide volume.
Volumes on the Asia-Europe trade fell by 7.1% year on year in July, to 1.3 million teu from 1.4 million teu, according to the latest figures published by Container Trades Statistics.
The same picture was observed on the east-west route between January and July 2015. Box volumes shrank from 9 million teu to 8.6 million teu, a decrease of 4.7% compared to the same period in 2014.
