"Warhorse Africa" ready for next "jump"
"Operation Warhorse", an initiative to develop a freight pipeline to bring vital medical supplies to South Africa utilising all-inclusive shared-space air charters, was launched last month as an initiative by the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff) through the local business development company TVG & Associates.
Kobus Maree, CEO of Savino Del Bene South Africa, points out that the country is competing with the rest of the world for many of the products urgently needed locally.
The contract deadline for the next northbound flight, with a capacity of 550 cbm and scheduled to take off on 12 June, is on 4 June. The central portal will enable cargo requirements to be consolidated per region (China, Europe, India, USA, etc.) and allow for swifter and more efficient planning and allocation of space for those who secure cargo space in the charters.
