Young scientist awarded for logistics governance work
Turkish-born Dr Nihan Akyelken from the University of Oxford (UK) is the recipient of the International Transport Forum's 2015 "young researcher of the year award". The accolade is being presented today (28 May 2015), in the presence of ministers from the 54 member countries of the ITF during the 2015 transport ministers' summit in Leipzig (Germany). The award carries a prize of EUR 5,000.
An international jury of experts chose Akyelken for her contribution to developing a conceptual framework for the governance of sustainable freight transport in the age of globalisation. The jury praised the paper for showing "a real new policy dimension" that is "relevant to the policies pursued by international organisations such as the OECD and the ITF".
The ITJ is also involved in this international event as its editor-in-chief, Christian Doepgen, is moderating a side event named "Logistics connectivity: the key facilitator of global trade". It is organised by Fiata and Clecat and taking place on 29 May.
