154 freight trains now bypassing Krasnodar

Freight trains have started bypassing Krasnodar (Russia) following last week's opening of Krasnodar-Caucasus Railways' new 65 km long Kozyrki-Severo railway line.

From now on, scheduled freight services will use the new line; the number of freight trains is due to reach 154 pairs per day, according to RZD.

This new corridor in southern Russia is a fully electrified double-track railway line which connects the Volga region with ports on the shores of the Azov and Black Seas. It will now enable the transit freight that previously passed through Krasnodar to bypass the city, thus improving the transport and environmental situation. (ben)
