8,000 t less

Carbon free and no empty journeys: With its new "Bayern-Shuttle", DB Cargo has partnered with Austrian logistics provider Cargo-Serv to ensure climate-friendly deliveries to Bavaria's automotive industry and its suppliers.

Without CO2 emissions, steel is delivered every weekday per train from voestalpine's industrial plant in Linz (Austria) to major car manufacturers and their suppliers in Lower and Upper Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate. On the way back, the freight trains carry scrap from the car factories to the steel plant in Linz.

More than 500,000 t of cargo are moved in this goods cycle per year, using only green electricity. All in all, the service saves around 8,000 t of CO2 per year, compared to road haulage. (ben)
