90th anniversary of Miami Airport drawing closer
A hub for history will be the centrepiece of Miami International Airport (MIA)'s 90th birthday. Officials from the US airport and History Miami Museum, as well as airport and airline employees past and present – including former Pan Am Airways’ flight attendants in full uniform – will gather to celebrate the event.
The hub for history will be opened as an art exhibit featuring airport memorabilia from the last nine decades. Developed in partnership with History Miami Museum, the exhibit features vintage photographs, posters, uniforms and videos of celebrity MIA arrivals from the airport’s first flight on 15 September 1928 up to the present.
In addition to unveiling the exhibition and cutting MIA’s birthday cake, officials will formally launch the #MIAMemories photo contest at the event. Whether it’s a first arrival to the USA, the start of a favourite vacation, or a long-awaited reunion with loved ones, travellers are invited to post photos of their most memorable moments at MIA on social media using the hashtag, with the chance to be randomly chosen for a surprise travel gift.
