Big business with the Taliban?

Ariana Afghan Airlines, Afghanistan’s state-owned carrier, whose fleet currently comprises an A310 and three B737, is looking to add widebody aircraft. Further to tender documents, the Taliban-controlled airline is planning to buy three A330-200s including one dedicated freighter. These should be no older than 20 years of age and must not be due for a C check within the next six months.

Only offers submitted by aircraft owners and operators, leasing companies, resellers, sellers, selling agents and intermediaries or brokers who have the legal right to sign the final sales agreement will be considered. Delivery of the aircraft will take place in either UAE or Turkey. Bids are due on 8 July 2022.

Internationally, Ariana operates scheduled flights to Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, and Russia. Services to China, India and Kuwait are due to resume shortly. (ah)
