Cargo plane crash between Bahamas and Florida


A Convair C-131B Samaritan cargo plane operated by the US company, Conquest Air Cargo, ditched in the Atlantic Ocean, off the Miami FL (USA) coast last week. One person was rescued by a US Coast Guard helicopter, one person is missing in an area of 364 square nautical miles.

 

According to the Aviation Safety network, scheduled flight 504 departed from Nassau (NAS), Bahamas, on 8 February 2019, and was flying towards Miami Opa-Locka Executive Airport (OPF) when it crashed in the sea. At a distance of 95 km from OPF, the aircraft began to lose altitude until it hit the sea, 21 km off shore and 37 km from OPF.

 

Conquest Air Cargo, which offers five weekly consolidated cargo flights on this route, reported that the pilot had declared an emergency and attempted a water landing. (ah)
