DB Waggonbau Niesky axing jobs

The German rolling stock manufacturer DB Waggonbau Niesky GmbH is to reduce its workforce due to a substantial decline in inbound orders for next year. This, in turn, is the result of shrinking demand for rail vehicles and their components. The company has not said how many jobs will be lost. Some 290 employees currently work at the Niesky plant. The company, based in Saxony, has been building industrial and rail vehicles for more than 175 years, and mainly produces freight cars. The German state railway, Deutsche Bahn AG, took over Waggonbau Niesky in July 2008. (ben)
