DHL piloting registration-free pickup in Germany

DHL Paket has launched a one-year pilot project in Germany that allows parcels to be delivered to what are called ‘Packstations’ without prior registration.

From 7 July customers of selected online retailers, including Cewe and Mosaik Tree, can simply enter a ‘Packstation’ address at the online checkout and receive a pick-up code by email once their parcel arrives.

The project aims to reduce barriers and attract new users who were previously deterred by the registration process. According to Benjamin Rasch, head of marketing and product management at DHL, the simplified process also benefits online retailers, who can now offer the use of ‘Packstations’ to all of their customers.

15,500 ‘Packstations’ are in use in Germany. Existing registered users can continue to benefit from bonus points and shipment tracking via an app. (gy)
