Dubai now fifth biggest cargo airport in the world

Based on reports from over 1,105 airports worldwide, Airports Council International (ACI)'s preliminary cargo traffic results for 2013 show that the world's largest air cargo hub continued to be Hong Kong with 4.16 million t of freight loaded and unloaded (+2.3%). Memphis, with 4.14 million t (+3%), came second, followed by Shanghai with 2.93 million t (-0.3%), in third place. Incheon, with 2.46 million t (+0.3%) and Dubai, with 2.44 million t (+6.8%) came in fourth and fifth respectively and overtook Anchorage with 2.42 million t (-1.7%).


The volume of air cargo worldwide inched up slightly by 0.7% in 2013, essentially remaining at the same level as in the three preceding years. Most regions remained relatively weak in relation to year-over-year growth rates with the exception of the Middle East (+5.1%). A third of the world's top 30 busiest cargo airports experienced a decrease in airfreight in 2013.
