Dutch hinterland connections expanded

The Dutch sea port of Terneuzen has been linked to the railfreight corridor (RFC) Rhine-Alpine. With Terneuzen, the third of the four ports that are affiliated under the roof of North Sea Ports joins RFC Rhine-Alpine. The hinterland strategy focuses on the development of the rail market share. In Terneuzen, railfreight volumes are expected to double over the next ten years.

RFC Rhine-Alpine stretches from the sea ports of Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Zeebrugge and Antwerp in Belgium, Amsterdam and Vlissingen in the Netherlands to the port of Genoa (Italy) through the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

RFC Rhine-Alpine is part of the European Commission’s promotion plan to improve the use of railfreight transport. It became operational in 2013. (ben)
