Eimskip renews 'Blue Line'

Eimskip has signed contracts for two 2,280 teu container vessels through its German affiliate Elbfeeder under a ten-year time-charter.

The ships, due for delivery in the second half of 2028, will serve the company’s 'Blue Line' between Reykjavík, Rotterdam and Teesport. With a length of 185 m, a width of 29.4 m and the capacity to carry 2,280 teu, they will be the largest vessels in Eimskip’s fleet.

Designed for North Atlantic conditions, the vessels will prioritise speed, reliability and manoeuvrability, while featuring hull optimisation, silicone coating and shore-power connections to reduce energy use, according to Eimskip. A dual-fuel propulsion system prepared for methanol and LNG supports future transition to alternative energy sources.

CEO Vilhelm Már Thorsteinsson stated that "we see great opportunities with the delivery of these new vessels, especially considering our plans to increase exports of fresh seafood and salmon." (js)
