First paperless freight transport in Italy

In October 2025 Gruber Logistics, in collaboration with the Circle Group, carried out Italy's first paperless freight transit, representing a significant milestone in the digitalisation of European logistics. The trial involved transporting a container from La Spezia to Interporto Bologna and validated the automatic transfer of ETA data, the electronic consignment note (e-CMR) and digital data exchange between companies, platforms and authorities.

The project demonstrated seamless interoperability between the Keystone and eFTI platforms, as well as port community system, reducing manual processes and simplifying inspections. The successful execution confirms that paperless, sustainable supply chains are achievable in Europe, illustrating the benefits of more efficient, transparent logistics processes. The initiatives eFTI4EU and Keystone aim to create an interoperable European network for data exchange and support a vision of a paperless, media interruption-free flow of goods, aligned with the European Green Deal.
