Flying Egypt’s treasures to Hong Kong

Cathay Cargo has flown 250 ancient Egyptian artefacts – more than 30 t in total – from Shanghai to Hong Kong for the nine-month exhibition "Ancient Egypt Unveiled" which is opening today, 20 November 2025, at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

The shipment, handled under the airline’s "Cathay Secure" product, included two 20-ft pallets, an oversized pallet and 12 lower-deck pallets, all moved with shock-absorbing equipment. An Egyptian courier and Shanghai-based experts supervised the loading, while customs and airport partners opened a green channel to accelerate checks and screening.

Cathay says the move highlights its ability to handle fragile, high-value cultural cargo and strengthens Hong Kong’s role as a hub for international cultural exchange. (ah)
