Gibraltar prepares aircraft registry launch
Gibraltar is moving closer to launching its own aircraft registry, following the establishment of the Gibraltar Civil Aviation Authority and Gibraltar Aircraft Registry Ltd in partnership with the US-based Aviation Registry Group.
The project, first agreed in 2022, is designed to attract high-end private and commercial aircraft, generating revenue through registration fees while creating opportunities for Gibraltar’s legal, finance and insurance sectors.
A UK department for transport audit in early 2026 will be the final step before registrations begin. "This effectively launches a new industry in Gibraltar," said chief secretary Glendon Martinez (right). Sir Jorge Colindres of Aviation Registry Group added that "we've already started marketing the Gibraltar Aircraft Register and the response from aircraft owners has been very positive." A formal launch is planned for Ebace in Geneva in May 2026. (ah)
