GW supporting trans-Atlantic paddleboarder
Gebrüder Weiss (GW) is supporting sports enthusiast and environmental activist Michael Walther’s attempt to cross the Atlantic solo and unsupported on a stand-up paddleboard.
The Kiel-based German athlete will depart from Lagos (Portugal) in September and paddle past the Canary and Cape Verde Islands to French Guiana.
Gebrüder Weiss is handling the transport of his custom-built board from Kiel to Lagos and will return it from Cayenne to Kiel through a climate-neutral seafreight solution. During the three-month journey Walther will collect marine audio data for the Alfred Wegener Institute.
This project continues Walther’s expeditions to raise awareness of climate issues. He also supports GWcycles, Gebrüder Weiss’s campaign that funds ocean plastic removal for every 100,000 km cycled worldwide.
Since April 2025, 6 t of plastics have been cleared. Gebrüder Weiss has backed sustainable mobility projects since 2021. (gy)
