Ivory Coast government facilitates aviation

Amadou Coulibaly (photo), government spokesman of Côte d'Ivoire, has announced the creation of a cell to fight illicit trafficking, drugs and cross-border crime. The unit, which will be based at Abidjan airport, is part of the multi-agency initiative "Aircop" (Unodoc-WCO-Interpol Airport Communication Project), in which several West African countries also participate.

In other news, Qatar Airways has made its debut flight to Côte d’Ivoire’s largest city, the Middle Eastern airline's eighth new destination since the start of the global pandemic and the fourth in Africa after Abuja (Nigeria), Accra (Ghana) and Luanda (Angola).

The thrice weekly service between Doha and Abidjan via Accra will be operated with B787 offering 15 t of belly capacity.

Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker thanked the government of Côte d’Ivoire for its support to launch these flights and called them a "testament to our commitment to the African continent where we now operate over 100 weekly flights to 25 destinations in 18 countries". (ah)
