Jamaica - more recognition on the maritime front
Claudia Grant, the deputy director general of Jamaica's maritime authority (MAJ), has been elected vice-chairman of the sub-committee on implementation of IMO instruments.
The appointment brings much recognition to Jamaica and the MAJ, and it signals the commitment Jamaica offers to the implementation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and conventions. On a whole it is positive for Jamaica, as well as the Caribbean, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Jamaica has been a part of this sub-committee since the MAJ’s establishment in 2001, and Grant was the Jamaican delegate who attended the committee meetings for some 15 years. She is also the founding president of the Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WiMAC) which was established in 2015. (ah)
