Kapsch and Algerian Railways to cooperate
The Algerian railways operator SNTF and Kapsch CarrierCom have signed a contract on a joint rail-telecommunications venture. The main goals of the partnership are to establish railway telecommunications know-how in Algeria and to build, supply and maintain the Algerian railway network with state-of-the-art telecommunications technology.
The Algerian railway network is set to be expanded in the coming years; plans are to extend it to 12,000-14,000 km by 2025. Approximately USD 27 billion will be spent, in the scope of an Algerian infrastructure project, on expanding and modernising the network. (ben)
