Less railfreight for Estonian carrier
The Estonian state-owned railfreight carrier EVR Cargo’s freight volume reached 1.06 million t in August, a drop of 5.7% year-on-year. The overall freight volume in the first eight months of the year was 10.14 million t, 4.6% less than in the like-for-like period in 2013.
Whilst oil products transport volumes continued to decline, there was an increase in the transport volume of fertilisers and containers in the year to date. Container volumes hauled by EVR Cargo were up by 28% year-on-year in August, reaching 5,897 teu in all. The railway hauled 50,593 teu in H1/2014, an increase of 32% compared to last year. (ben)
