Long Beach prolongs life at congestion relief depot
The harbour commissioners' board at the port of Long Beach in California (USA) has unanimously approved an extra six months of operation for a temporary container storage facility on the harbour district’s undeveloped pier S to support its terminals in quickly clearing the current cargo backlog.
The existing 12 ha storage depot opened in December 2014 and allows for the storage of loaded cargo containers and chassis in addition to the empty containers that were already permitted there.
With the initial time period for the container storage depot set to expire on 31 March, the port has acted to expand the use of the pier S area. Pasha Stevedoring & Terminals will continue to operate the storage depot, and the port will monitor traffic for any issues.
