Major investment in Immingham ferry terminal

Stena Line, in collaboration with Associated British Ports (ABP), is set to launch a new freight ferry terminal at the Port of Immingham, marking a joint investment of over GBP 200 million. This development will significantly boost the Humber region's capabilities, enhancing its role as a growing hub for unaccompanied freight services. The Immingham eastern roro terminal (IERRT), which will facilitate access to the Humber estuary, aims to provide quicker sailing times and accommodate larger vessels, responding to the rising freight demand across the UK and Europe.

The project has garnered support from various stakeholders, including transport minister Simon Lightwood, who highlighted the economic benefits such as job creation – estimated at around 700 during construction and 200 for terminal operations. Both Stena Line and ABP emphasised their long-term partnership and commitment to improving trade resilience for UK businesses. Stena Line's CEO, Niclas Mårtensson, noted that the terminal is crucial for expanding operations on their routes to the continent, reinforcing Immingham's significance within their European network.
