Mansio issues white paper on 44-t

The Aachen-based logistics technology firm Mansio is calling for encounter traffic to be included in the 44-t rule, currently applied to combined transport. A white paper of the company argues that encounter traffic achieves similar benefits but is not legally recognised as a separate transport mode. The paper recommends defining encounter traffic with clear standards and criteria.

According to Mansio the timing is favourable, as the revision of Directive 96/53/EC and the focus of Denmark’s EU presidency open the door to change. CEO Maik Schürmeyer highlights the potential for electric trucks: "In encounter traffic, an e-truck can be charged at its home depot and then cost-efficiently used on a second shift." The model also aims to reduce parking demand, improve security, and make long-haul driving more attractive. (js)
