Monthly record before expected drop in Long Beach

The port of Long Beach handled 867,493 teu in April, marking its busiest April ever and a 15.6% year-on-year increase. Imports rose by 15.1% to 419,828 teu, while exports declined by 4.5% to 93,842 teu. The number of empty containers surged by 23% to 353,824 teu.

However, port officials expect a drop of more than 10% in May volumes due to newly imposed tariffs and retaliatory measures. CEO Mario Cordero warned of possible effects on consumer prices and the labour market. Despite the trade uncertainties, the port is continuing investments in rail and terminal upgrades.

In the first four months of 2025, Long Beach moved 3,4 million teu – a 23.6% rise compared to the same period last year. (ah)
