New train to boost China – Vietnam trade

Zhejiang Province in China has launched a railfreight service between Yiwu in East China and Hanoi in Vietnam. The first train carrying 70 standard containers loaded with spare parts for electronic products, colour-coated steel sheets and plastics products made in the Yangtze River Delta is now on route on the 2,168 km long journey to Vietnam’s capital city.

According to the Chinese state council information office, it is the first time that Zhejiang has opened an international railway logistics channel to Southeast Asian countries. Zhejiang province plans to despatch the train weekly for a round trip in future.

The service will help facilitate trade between the two countries. Zhejiang will send large quantities of machinery, electronic products and clothing to Hanoi and Vietnam will deliver tropical fruits, rice, coffee, and nuts to Yiwu. (ben)
