Oslo airport boosts cargo capacity and seafood exports
Oslo airport has welcomed Menzies World Cargo as a new handler following its takeover of Spirit on 1 September. The move strengthens cargo services at Norway’s main hub for exports and imports, with head of cargo Eva Beate Lande noting that it "provides an even stronger foundation for further growth."
A few days earlier, Ethiopian Airlines launched a weekly freighter link from Oslo to Hanoi, which continues from there to Bangkok. The inaugural flight, marked by a traditional water salute, carried fresh Norwegian salmon directly to Vietnam. With demand for seafood in Asia rising sharply – 24,000 t of salmon went to Thailand and 5,000 t to Vietnam in 2024 – the new route opens faster access to Southeast Asian markets.
Together, the entry of Menzies and the Ethiopian Airlines service underline Oslo’s role as a key Nordic cargo hub. (ah)
