Rail solution results in massive CO2 reduction
Green Cargo’s rail solution for wood transport reduces carbon emissions by around 105,000 kg. In 2016, the Swedish rail freight carrier began its collaboration with Norsk Gjenvinning to haul recovered wood by rail from Norsk Gjenvinning’s Groruddalen Miljöpark facility (Norway), to Tekniska verken’s heating and power plant in Katrineholm (Sweden).
Deliveries of eight to 16 containers per week from the start of the agreement have now been expanded to 24 containers containing 900 cbm of recovered wood. The product, which consists of old pallets and timber, is turned into woodchips in Oslo, and then delivered to Katrineholm. (ben)
