Reducing Tyrol's truck traffic by 1,300 vehicles per day

Great efforts are being made to extend the rolling motorway (RoMo) in Austria in order to reduce congestion on Tyrol’s road networks. As of 1 January 2020, there will be one train per day on the Regensburg (Germany) – Trento (northern Italy) line in each direction.

As from 1 April 2020, the service will be increased to four daily trains per direction. When the expansion phase is completed on 1 January 2021, five daily roundtrips are intended to operate on this stretch. To sum up, this means that there will be one RoMo train per hour and direction on the Brenner axis when all expansion work is completed.

When used to full capacity, the new intermodal offering should reduce the number of trucks on Tyrol’s roads by 1,300 trucks per day. In 2018, Rail Cargo Operator shipped 170,243 trucks by rail. (ben)
